Well... Errrr, not quite. Land of the free? Not if you commit the ultimate sin of looking to marry a Russian woman!!
From March 6th 2006, the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act of 2005 came into effect, having failed miserably to get this passed in its own right in 2003 because of privacy concerns, it was tagged onto the popular “Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005”, and passed without a debate.
So what does this actually mean for you?
Well, before your first introduction letter is even translated for a woman we have to collect a lot of personal information about you, translate that and pass it to the woman BEFORE she has even seen your letter. Oh, I also have to run your name through the National Sex Offender Public Registry too !!
The supporters of this law cited the three tragic cases of American men murdering their foreign wives in the last 10 years.... failing of course to mention the approx. 12,000 or so American wives that faced the same fate during that same time (apparently American women are not worth their concern !!).
This laws main supporters act on the basis that in their opinion American men think that they are buying a woman if they use a marriage agency. Is that what you think? Are you that stupid? Your own government seems to think so, also they are basically calling you a potential abuser because you are ....an American male !!!! They argue that this type of relationship is not one of equals as the women don’t pay...and that’s bad. So by their logic an American woman who marries an American man richer than her should have the same rights or he will think that he has bought her too??
Of course the worlds largest matchmaking organisations are exempt from this law,
Yahoo Personals, Match.com, etc etc Why? Because they have the money to challenge
this unconstitutional law in court and WIN. So your government believes that because
Yahoo Personals is not Yahoos main income source, the foreign women that an American
citizen may meet there are not worthy of this so called protection, so all wife
beaters/rapists/murderers etc can use these services without hindrance. Makes sense
doesn't it !!!! There is a lot of talk about certain large Internet dating services,
not their main business of course, funding those behind this legislation as a way
of clearing the small agencies away. American corporate wrongdoing???? Perish the
thought !! What a scandalous suggestion and one that I totally disassociate myself
from (that’s for the lawyers) ;-
On that subject, who are the organisations behind this legislation? The National
Organization of Women and The Tahirih Justice Center, (this is a US based NGO for
immigrant women and girls who are fleeing from gender based violence and persecution).
You didn’t know that these feminist groups are controlling your life choices? Well,
now you do. They have introduced the phrase -
They do not want you to marry a woman that has fundamentally different ideas on life,
family and the role of men and women in a marriage than American women do. They want
you to marry fat, tattooed, lazy, selfish, self-
Here are some facts for them to look at.... A woman dies from domestic violence every 40 minutes in Russia. And every day around 36,000 women in Russia are beaten by their husbands or partners (Amnesty International). Each year in Russia, approx. 14,000 women die at the hands of their husbands or intimate partners. In the United States, by comparison, this number stands at about 1,200, according to the 2001 Bureau of Justice Statistics Report. Russia's population is 144 million; the U.S. population is 293 million. Even though its more than 20 times safer for a Russian woman to marry an American than a Russian in relation to domestic violence, you are STILL a danger to her, a potential abuser in their eyes!!!
So, as a final thought, now its actually easier for an American man to marry another man than it is to marry a woman from Russia !!!! Nice one !!!!!!!!!!!!! O’er the land of the free .....indeed !!!!!!
